It’s an Irish day!

Events, an Irish guy and his Irish dog, What I’m Reading
It’s an Irish day!
Great Blue Heron in the river (cropped out) about a kilometre from my house in Canada.

The celebration of St. Patrick’s Day is always fraught. I mean…yay Irish! But if you’re not Catholic, maybe…nah? The stereotypes about the Irish can get a little tiresome, and the green beer thing is just revolting. I saw this Reel in which an Irish comedian and musician named Garron Noone went on a rant about people stirring green edible glitter into Guinness and I cracked up because whoa dang did I empathize with that rage.

I made some Irish soda bread with orange peel and raisins (which, by the way, should demonstrate that I do not share Al MacBharrais’s loathing for them) and slathered a slice with Irish butter and honey. That’s going to constitute my observance of the day—no corned beef or whatever for me.

BUT. If you’d like to celebrate in a slightly different way…how about some stories wherein an Irish Druid tells stories to his Irish wolfhound and Boston terrier buddy? You can preorder Oberon’s Bathtime Stories now—it’s out April 8—and if you do so directly from the publisher, Horned Lark Press, it’ll be signed by me AND you can score what I suppose must be a limited edition bookmark. I found a hundred old bookmarks from the Hunted tour and on the back there’s a pic of Oberon saying <Slobber is just one of the many fine services I provide for free.> Preorder now and I’ll throw a signed one in (while supplies last, see pic).

Gadzooks, an event!

If you happen to be in Canada and happen further to be in the Ottawa area (or can make it there), I will be at the South Keys Indigo bookstore on Bank St. from noon to three p.m. on Sunday, April 6. I’ll be there with other sci-fi and fantasy authors, too, like Kate Heartfield. They’ll have the first books of my series on sale there for sure, possibly some others, and you’re welcome to bring everything else you want me sign, no limits, because heck, that’s why I’ll be there. Come see me, eh?

And heck, maybe another one?

This isn’t confirmed yet, but the plan is that I’ll be doing a Facebook Live thingie with audiobook narrator Luke Daniels on Tuesday, April 8 to promote and celebrate the release of Oberon’s Bathtime Stories. The audiobook is available to preorder everywhere but Audible at this point…Audible is just slow. They will have it eventually! But Libro.fm, Chirp, Apple, Spotify, and more already have it available for preorder, and you can listen to a free sample for fun. The audiobook includes bonus material, y’all: The Dead Flea Scrolls, Oberon’s religion for dogs! It’s been bonus material in Trapped for a few years now in print and ebook, but this is the first time we’ll have it in audio, so yay!

I’m just saying…maybe write a note to check Facebook that night if you’re on there at all? Luke and I always have fun together and if you can see him talking about sausage in Oberon’s voice you’ll crack up, I guarantee it. He’s delightful.
